My first Tomb Raider was the reboot and I decided to try out the previous titles in the series to see what the fuss was about and I can honestly see why many people prefer the old style of TR games. I'm mind blown by the mixed rating score on this one. I also got Tomb Raider anniversary and that is a MUCH better game even though it is 3+ years older. The story is decent and the puzzles are fun but the controls are an absolute gamebreaker.
I finally just quit the game after having the save fail and having to replay a long, tedious puzzle again. The autosave is terrible and doesn't often work. (I have never had this happen before in a game) so I must have turned on inverted controls 30 times. Your controller options often reset like whenever you save or get an xbox achievement.

It just seems like 90% of production focused on the visual (which is stunning) and 10% on making the story interesting or engadging. And you dont even get to battle the villains at the end! everything gets wrapped up in a cut scene. And in parts it feel like you are being hand held through what are quite basic puzzles and poor enemies.

Instead the time slows down in critical moments, but the player still retains full control of the Lara's movements. For this Lara once again learned a few new moves including jumping between the walls introduced in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. The basic gameplay remains the same as in most of the previous iterations of the series with the focus on exploring, solving riddles and dodgy climbing passages instead of instant action and gun fights. At the same time the game continues to explore the idea of monomyth, this time incorporating the influences of the Norse mythology into its narrative. This time even the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea is not save from Lara's exploring. Continuing the events from Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Anniversary, her search brings her once again to locations around the globe from the cold wastes of the Arctic to the beautiful landscapes of Thailand. Tomb Raider: Underworld concludes the story of Lara's search for her mother who is supposedly trapped in a place called Avalon.
